Would you do whatever it takes to protect your inner peace and mental health? Is it a bad thing to put yourself first?
Nobody wants to be labelled as a selfish person. I mean, has it ever been a good thing to be called selfish? Well, it depends on what you’re talking about. When you think about the word selfish, you’ll probably remember a time when you didn’t want to share your chocolate bar or your chicken wings with a friend which resulted in you being called selfish or stingy.
But being selfish isn’t always a bad thing. Especially when it’s about protecting your inner peace. And this is where self-care comes into play.
A lot of people compromise their inner peace for nonsense. So that could be dealing with a guy who treats you like trash and sticking around. Or it could be as simple as following people on Instagram who only post things that bring your mood down.
You’re probably thinking: ‘Why would you allow this energy into your life?’ The truth is, a lot people don’t want to offend someone or are too scared to walk away from relationships or friendships that don’t serve them right anymore. But you gotta do what’s best for you and make the right decision to protect your inner peace. And that doesn’t make you selfish. If anything, you were too considerate for putting up with their BS for a long time.
I know, it sounds easier said than done especially when you’re the victim but have you ever been in a situation where the shoe was on the other foot? So you were the person that was wearing and tearing someone down? Yes, it can be you too! You’re not exempt from this. I’ll put my hand up and admit that I’ve weared and teared someone down in the past. It’s not nice to hear this but you gotta accept when someone tells you how you make them feel ‘cause they gotta protect their inner peace too.
So what I’m tryna say here is, don’t be scared to do whatever it takes to protect your inner peace. And as hard as it is gonna be, respect someone for doing whatever they gotta do to protect their inner peace. Yes, you might lose some friends or some followers on Instagram but your inner peace should come first. The last thing you wanna be is an emotional wreck only because you don’t wanna come across selfish to the people who are wearing and tearing you down. You are in control of the energy around you whether it be friends or something as small as the posts that appear on your social media feed. So take charge today by evaluating your life and surroundings and make the necessary changes to protect your mental health and inner peace.
Sugars and love,
